Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can my swimmer swim with a year around team while swimming with Teal Run Tidal Waves?

A: No. Swimmers must disassociate from any competitive swim team by April 30. Please read entire SHRSL policies and procedures.

Q: How do I know when swim meets, or practice are cancelled due to weather?

A: Bad weather? We have set up an alert system through Swimtopia to alert you of swim practice and swim meet cancellations due to weather. When lightning or thunder occurs, all swimmers will be cleared from the pool deck to wait in their vehicles or another safe place until the "all clear" is announced. The meet or practice will resume 30 minutes after the last occurrence of lightning or thunder. If weather conditions are too hazardous to continue, the meet will be rescheduled by the coaches and meet directors of each team.

It is highly recommended for parents to download the Swimtopia app! This app will serve as the communication portal throughout the season. On the Swimtopia App you will be able to receive Team Alerts for weather delays/cancellations, as well as view upcoming meets, volunteer commitments, and swim results. More information about the app is available here.

Q: What equipment do I need to swim?

A: Your swimmer will need a swimsuit, swim cap and goggles for practice and meets. It is required that female swimmers wear a one-piece bathing suit at practice and the team swim meets. Male swimmers may wear swim trunks at practice and the team suit at meets. The swimsuit for 2023 are new and can be purchased online!

For swim meets you will purchase a team swimsuit from Pearland Swim Shop. The board members will have a fit kit if needed for swimsuit fitting during practice before ordering. Orders can be placed and paid through the website, and it can take up to two weeks to arrive. Please order your swim suite as soon as possible.

Q: Do swimmers have to wear a swim cap?

A: It is required to wear a "Tidal Wave" swim cap for team identity and spirit at swim meets. All swimmers should wear a swim cap as it helps to glide through the water. A latex "Tidal Waves" swim cap can be ordered during registration. It is recommended to purchase a long hair silicone swim cap for swimmers with braids, locs or long hair.

Q: What is the minimum age to join the swim team?

A: Swimmers must be 4 years of age before April 28, 2025.

Q: What is the cost to join the swim team?

A: First new swimmer is $165.00 and third plus new swimmers are $155.00.

Q: What is the attendance policy?

A: Swimmers should come to as many of their age group practices as possible. We understand that the end of the school year is a busy time, but consistent practice is what will help the swimmers improve. Swimmers may only swim with their corresponding age group unless given permission by their coach.

It is not necessary to notify the coach if you are going to miss practice, only swim meets.

If your child is ill or an emergency occurs and your child will miss a meet, please notify the head coach, team volunteer coordinator and a board member promptly so that arrangements may be made for the upcoming swim meet.
